Where can I find the COP installation guide?

A: The COP installation guide is part of the COP User's manual (see Chapter 2.3 'Installation procedure'). You can download the actual COP User's manual here.

What privileges are required in order to run the COP setup?

A: You need administrative privileges on your computer to run the setup procedure.

Where can I get information about the COP installation process on my computer?

A: The setup procedure will create a log file in the user's TEMP directory. To find the TEMP directory on your computer type 'echo %TEMP%' on the Windows command line (MS-DOS prompt). The log file is created with a unique name based on the current date and a sequential number at the end  (e.g. Setup Log yyyy-mm-dd #001.txt). The information contained in the log file is technical in nature and useful for support requests.

A: You can download the guideline for installing network licences from the internal area of the COP homepage. You have to log into your account with your credentials once before.

I want to provide COP licences throughout the network. How can I setup COP to act as licence server?

A: To install COP as network server execute the downloaded setup file and choose option Run as 'network server' on the Licence server configuration page. Finish the setup and start CPP. All network licences installed on this computer are now also available in the network.

My COP network client is installed on a computer. Why are COP network licences not found by this client?

A: In order to update the server search list of the licence server running on your client computer simply restart the licence server on your client computer or add your COP network server to the server search list of your licence server on the client computer.

To restart the licence server on your client computer open the CodeMeter Control Center by clicking on the icon in the Windows task bar. If the Control Center has not been started select Start | Programs | CodeMeter | CodeMeter Control Center. In the Control Center select Process | Stop CodeMeter Service. After the CodeMeter service has been stopped choose Process | Start CodeMeter Service to start the service again.

To add your COP network server to the server search list of your licence server on the client computer open the CodeMeter WebAdmin by either typing http://localhost:22350 or http://127.0.0.1:22350 into your browser's address field or by clicking button WebAdmin in the CodeMeter Control Center. Choose page Configuration | Network and click on Button add to enter the name or IP address of your COP network server.

I chose to install COP as network client (server) during the setup procedure. After the setup has been completed, how can I change the network configuration of COP to run as network server (client) ?

COP licences

How does COP search for a free licence?

A: Licences are always searched first on the local PC before a network access takes place. Search for licences on a USB dongle (hardware based protection) always takes precedence over the search for licences in a licence file (software based protection).

Hence, COP is searching first for licences on the local PC on a connected USB dongle. If there is no valid licence found or free, COP continues to search for licences in a licence file that is installed on your local PC. If no valid licence was found on the local PC and the option Search also for network licences (menu Tools | Options ..., Licence) is selected , COP will scan further the network for licences.

COP again searches in the network for licences stored on a USB dongle first. If COP cannot find a USB dongle with a free and valid licence in the network, it will continue to seek in the network a licence file that contains a valid and free licence.

My COP licence is installed on a network server. After I started COP on the client machine, the message "LICENCE NOT REQUESTED / NO DONGLE CONNECTED" is displayed.

A: To get access to the COP network licence, you must enable the network access for the search of COP licences. Select in the COP settings under Tools | Options ..., Licence the option Search also for network licences.

How can I produce a license receipt file (*. WibuCmRaC)?

Therefore please start the CmDust tool ('Start | Programs | CodeMeter | Tools | CmDust’) on your machine where a COP license file is present. A command prompt will be shortly visible. The command prompt will close automatically and the Windows Explorer will open in which you will find your CmDust-Result.log. This file contains information on your COP-licence and can be send to software(at)fw-ing.de for analyses.

I own hardware-based protection (USB-dongle). Why doesn't my PC boot when the USB-dongle is connected to it?

A: Depending on your BIOS and it's settings it's possible that your working station fails to boot when an USB-dongle is connected. The system tries to boot from the USB-dongle.

This behaviour can be changed by configuring your USB-dongle. This problem occurs when your USB-dongle is configured as "Local hard drive". To configure your USB-dongle as "removable disk" you need to do the following:

Open a CodeMeter Command Prompt ('Start | All Programs | CodeMeter | Tools | CodeMeter Command Prompt'). To see your current configuration please enter the following command where <serial> is replaced with your USB-dongle's serial key i.e. "1-123456":

cmu32 /s <serial> --show-config-disk

To configure your USB-dongle as "removable disk" you need to enter the following command:

cmu32 /s <serial> --set-config-disk RemovableDisk

Unplug the USB-dongle and insert it again and check your PC's booting behaviour and it's normal functionality.

If your working station still doesn't boot after the formatting of your USB-dongle you should make sure that the option to boot from USB-media is properly turned off in your PC's BIOS. Please use your PC's or your mainboard's instruction manual for further details or consult your local IT-support.
